Jack Petchey Leader Award
Laura Fensome has been an Assistant Pastoral Manager for over 3 ½ years now at St Charles Sixth Form College, and has just recently been promoted to Pastoral Manager in December 2023. During her time at St Charles she has always led by example and she is the perfect role model for the student cohort that she looks after in her role.
It was a great surprise and honour to have been nominated and win the Jack Petchey award, I loved seeing all the students go up on stage and collect their awards and I enjoyed doing the same with them - Laura Fensome
A dedicated member of the College’s pastoral team, Laura oversees our Bakhita Hall students who study on our Level 1 and 2 one year vocational courses. Despite there being approximately 180 students in this Year Group, Laura has an acute awareness of the needs of all the students, taking time to get to know and understand them all individually which is quite a task! She has been a real driver in ensuring that students on one year courses are supported and valued within the college community for their incredible efforts and contributions. She is a strong advocate for them as required and champions all the students in her Hall. During her time she had introduced many new initiatives such as a new rewards systems which encourages students to take pride in their academic and personal development and achievements and she has been instrumental in designed suitable tutorial resources for her year group, amongst other initiatives. Students benefit from her enthusiasm and she shows great interest in the welfare of her students and goes the extra mile to help them succeed.
Laura has worked under various line managers in her 3+ years at St Charles and all of them unequivocally cite her passion, caring and pleasant personality, commitment and professionalism. Laura is always cheerful with a smile on her face! She is popular amongst students and staff alike. A person of great energy and integrity, she wholeheartedly is committed to her students and the college. Thank you Laura.
