Future Tennis Star in the making
Last month St Charles student Chidi had the fantastic opportunity to participate in the J30 International Tennis Tournament held in Morocco. Chidi has risen to become a Junior International and National GB tennis player competing at a junior elite level with other young tennis players.
"My journey with this sport started when I was three years old, and I used to run around with a mini racquet, hitting red balls over a mini net as my dad was feeding me from the other side of the net. Now I can say I’ve traveled to countries such as Kenya, Morocco, Spain, Uganda and more to train and compete.
Being an international tennis player has been a privilege; training in Barcelona for one year after completing my GCSEs was an eye-opening experience, as it exposed me to how tennis is about the intensity of training and commitment. It elevated my gameplay; visiting cities such as Oujda, Kampala and Accra meant I could enjoy all the delicious native dishes they had to offer, and most of all, I am grateful to say that I can keep all these memories with me and make many more as my pursuit continues.
My experience in Morocco was very nice, and I appreciated being in a new environment with a different culture and style of living. My future goals and visions include continuing to compete locally and internationally, working my way through university, and ultimately becoming the best tennis player I can be."
We wish you ALL the success Chidi! Keep hitting those aces!
Chidi joined us from Fulham Cross Academy in September 2023 and studies BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Science.
