Learning Support Student of the Month - October 2021
Our Student of the Month – October 2021
Sonny Jim Lovell
Sonny is in his second year here at St Charles Sixth Form College having previously attended Woodlane High School locally. He is currently studying a L3 extended certificate in sport which is the equivalent of 3 A levels, having successfully progressed internally with us from Level 2 to Level 3 sport. Sonny is an ambitious student who hopes to progress to university to study sports science. Sport has always been his first and main interest and Sonny really enjoys studying the subject. He would like to become a PE teacher in a primary or secondary school post his graduate studies. He clearly has a deep passion and aptitude for all things sport and is part of the College’s first football team this year which he is really proud of.
Sonny is described as always polite to his peers and staff, hardworking with the will to learn and as someone who adopts a positive attitude to everything he undertakes. The Sports department have described him as a valuable member to their team. Mr Camacho states “Sonny is a committed and hardworking member of the PE department. Always present in body and mind, he is well organised and interested in the wider issues around the sports industry. Sonny is a well-mannered, respectful young man and a pleasure to have around the department”. Mr Hall further states “Always first to class, always organised, always tries, meets deadlines, hits distinctions and is a pleasure to teach!” Ms Thomas states “Sonny produces outstanding work, has met all deadlines and receives distinctions for his work”.
Jack Moore from the College’s Learning Support Department who works closely with Sonny on a daily basis as his main LSA comments that “Sonny has made an outstanding start to his Level 3 course. This is in no doubt down to his total commitment, work hard and sheer perseverance”. Rodney Silva, an LSA who also supports in sport says that “Sonny is a wonderful student who has the right attitude and the commitment to succeed on his course. He has the ability to achieve or surpass his current target grade as he is always asking questions and making sure the work is clarified for him so he can produce the highest quality work and he is a wonderful student to work with”.
Sonny himself feels St. Charles has been a “great fit” for him. The course is perfect as “ it’s what I am truly interested in and always have been and both it and the college environment and atmosphere has helped me grow in confidence and ability. I really appreciate all the guidance and encouragement I get from my teachers and the support from Jack and Rodney from learning support. Their subject expertise really inspires me. I also love playing for the college football team and I have made new friends at St Charles as well as keeping old ones during my time here”.
What a fantastic attitude you have towards everything Sonny! We are proud of your journey so far and are looking forward to supporting you with your next steps!
