“If you think you can, you can!”

The annual Jack Petchey Award Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of outstanding young people between the ages of 11-25 in our home borough of Kensington & Chelsea alongside young people from Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham boroughs took place on Thursday 29th February 2024 at St John Smith’s Square in Westminster. The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme is a unique reward and recognition initiative and the Presentation evening provides a real opportunity to highlight the positive contribution being made by young people and the range and diversity of individual’s accomplishments.

Amongst the award winners receiving their medals from local dignitaries were of course the St. Charles Jack Petchey winners for 2023. Each received a rapturous applause as they were presented with their medals by Councillor Preety Hudd-Mayor, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Cllr Dori Schmetterling-Deputy Mayor. The evening was one of great pride for students, their families, friends and staff who were in attendance watching the proceedings. There was a great atmosphere of achievement and joy amongst our winners who all did themselves and the College proud.

Winners were January 2023=Yusuf Ibrahim; February 2023=Maria Vasalie; March 2023=Chona Brown; April 2023=Adrian Benavides; May 2023= Chloe Balamga; June 2023=Petro Melnyk; September 2023=Zara Farouqi; October 2023=Rachelle Ido and November 2023=Ahmed Galib. See the link to their individual inspirational stories on our news feed! In addition, Rachelle was approached by Jack Petchey PR Dpt on the night as they wanted to feature an article on her!

St Charles also had nominated a leader award this year. Leader awards are given to adults who have demonstrated in an outstanding way an ability to encourage, motivate and support young people. Our leader award went to Laura Fensome, one of our Pastoral Managers for her untiring dedication and commitment to the year group of students in her remit. Congrats to all our award winners; they are all thoroughly deserved.
