London Sixth Form Colleges Launch The Borromeo Training Hub Offering High Quality Teacher Training

4 London Sixth Form Colleges are now providing salaried and apprenticeship teacher training opportunities in a range of subject areas through its newly launched platform, The Borromeo Training Hub, a bespoke College Centered Initial Teacher Training programme.

The Borromeo Training Hub, is a London Regional Hub for the ‘outstanding ITT provider’ Xavier Teach SouthEast, who have partnered with four Sixth Form Colleges across the London region to provide training for the development of confident and competent professionals, who will become outstanding teachers of tomorrow.

Principal Martin Twist, at St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College, affirmed:

We are incredibly excited about the potential of The Borromeo Training Hub to address some of the challenges of teacher recruitment and retention. Our ambition is to recruit subject specialists with an interest in teaching, provide them with the best possible training and support them properly throughout the first few years of their teaching career. Our partnership of 4 London-based Sixth Form colleges with specialist subject hubs, provides our trainees with a breadth of experience unique to London.

Trainees are well prepared through first-rate placements, which ensure that they gain substantial practical experience, developing their evaluative and practical teaching skills effectively. This is within a home college placement, four days a week, at one of the following sixth form colleges:

• St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College

• Christ The King Sixth Form College

• St Dominic's Sixth Form College

• St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College

The fifth day is spent receiving General Professional Studies and subject specific training. The in-school expert mentors and external subject trainers have consistently high expectations and work collaboratively to ensure the training is coherent and highly relevant to the needs of its teaching trainees.

The course pathways lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and is offered in the following subjects: Biology, Business, Economics, Chemistry, Computing, Health & Social Care, Mathematics and Physics, with the possibility of a bursary on specific subjects (other subjects available on request).

With most of The Borromeo Training Hub’s trainees going on to be employed and progressing their careers within its partnership of training colleges, there is no better place to embark on your teacher training journey than with The Borromeo Training Hub.
